Buckets

In the summer term, the Reception children learn all about 'Under the sea'. In their class text, "Billy's Bucket", the little boy wants a bucket for his birthday.

The children thought about what type of bucket they would like, and designed their very own bucket. Using their design sheet, the children created a final design on the outside of their bucket and refined their cutting and joining techniques to finish their bucket.

Then, the children verbally explained what they liked about their bucket - see us practising to speak in full sentences!

I like my bucket because...

Fruit tasting

The children found out that some fruits are grown in Africa, where it is hot. Then the children tasted mango, pineapple and avocado, some tasting these for the first time! The pineapple and mango was juicy and sweet, whereas the avocado was creamy, smooth, yet bitter. There were mixed reviews!

Ndebele houses and musical shakers

'Amazing Africa' was the spring term learning topic for our Reception children. During this topic, the children discovered a community of people who live in Africa, called the "Ndebele". The houses in these communities are distinctive because they are bright and colourful. The children designed, created and made their own Ndebele houses and reinforced their joining skills, by using tape to secure the house together.

The Reception children also enjoyed making musical shakers using yoghurt pots and pasta. The children had to measure and cut out a lid, carefully. Then, put the pasta inside and secure the lid with tape. After, the children listened to music and responded by moving themselves and their shakers, rhythmically.

Rockets

In the Autumn term, our Reception children learnt all about Space. As part of this learning, the children named the parts of a rocket and made their very own, using recycled materials. The children practised joining two pieces of material together using masking tape and glue.
